Macroarea Industrial Engineering and Automation
The main research of the macroarea Industrial Engineering and Automation (IEA) deals with product development, manufacturing and assembly processes, design and management of production systems, operations and supply chain management as well as mechanical and mechatronic design and robotics, automation and digitization techniques in the context of Industry 4.0, with a focus on the specific requirements of small and medium manufacturing, construction and agricultural businesses. The IEA team consists of more than 30 international professors, researchers and research fellows that moreover can conduct their research in four research laboratories.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dominik Matt holds the Chair for Production Systems and Technologies and heads the research department “Industrial Engineering and Automation (IEA)” at the Faculty of Science and Technology at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. Moreover, Prof. Matt is the Director of the Research Center Fraunhofer Italia in Bolzano. He has authored more than 200 scientific and technical papers in journals and conference proceedings and is member of numerous national and international scientific organizations and commitees (e.g.: AITeM – Associazione Italiana di Tecnologia Meccanica | WGAB – Academic Society for Work and Industrial Organization | EVI – European Virtual Institute on Innovation in Industrial Supply Chains and Logistic Networks). |
